New Year, New You?

One thing that has always gotten me, even though I've used the quote myself is, "New year, New Me!"

Thinking that a simple flip of the calendar would change anything is insane. What most people who use the quote don't understand is you are still taking you into the new year. You have to make some serious commitments if you're really going to make some changes. What changes will you be making to achieve a new you?

So what do you want to change this new year as we head into 2024?

For me?

-Lose weight

-Kick ass at school

-Breed goldfish successfully

-Keep the house clean

So a lot of this has to be broken into steps, otherwise it's just too overwhelming!

Losing weight, I need to focus on what I eat and my exercise routine. Maybe increase my protein intake. This is a super common goal but so many give up early on, so what I can say is don't give up! There is a huge influx of newbies at the gym in the new year, but it quickly wares off and that's a super bummer! As much as I don't like having to wait for my machine, it just goes to show how many people give up quickly.

Kick ass at school, well that one is fairly simple. Focus in class, do my homework, and make sure I get my assignments done well. Maybe for you, this is doing well at your job. You need to break down achievable tasks that all work towards your major goal of getting that promotion or raise.

Breeding goldfish, well that's a whole other post for another day!

Lastly, keeping my house clean is a big task for me. I'm currently trying to get put on ADHD medication because I get so easily overwhelmed and just shut down. In the meantime, I break it up into small tasks. Clean off the island, pick up the living room, clean one bathroom, etc. Having small daily tasks that break up one big task, makes things a million times easier. Is this something you struggle with?

So to sum this all up, make sure you can break down your main goal into smaller tasks, then you can continue to have those small wins as time goes on. When you have one goal that may take you the whole year, it's easier to give up, but when you have small tasks it seems more achievable. If you're wanting to lose a certain amount of weight, break it down into how much you want to lose each month. If it's cleaning, break up your cleaning schedule into small daily tasks.

What are your New Year's goals? How are you going to break them down?

Best of luck!
